  1. I found this article to be very interesting. You wouldn't think things like that happened back then. I found it horrible that Jefferson still had them as slaves for awhile knowing they were his kids.Luckily for their light complexion the kids were able to settle into white society after they were freed.

  2. This article "Jefferson's slave, was a very interesting article to read, because it was based on his life, and it was fascinating to read about Sally Hermings ( known as Sarah). That they had 6 kids, and in 1998, they did a DNA testing, and found prove, that the kids where residence of the Jefferson's Family!I enjoyed it!

  3. I have read this article and I have seen the movie about this -I am well informed about how the father's of this country agreed with slavery-my mother has taught me many things and the evils of society-it was sad that Thomas Jefferson one of the founding fathers had these children by a slave-she was never freed-her children were-and if it was so grand why did they leave-they left the plantation because they knew they had know future-thats why they were ashamed to be black and passed as being white-this article is only the tip of the real story-this was on television maybe 5 years ago me and my mom watched it-

  4. this article taught me some very important facts that i didn't know about thomas jefferson and his family life. i never would of thought that thomas jefferson had children with a slave, and that he had his kids work as slaves.i also feel that it wasn't right how thomas made sally remain as a household servant / maid. its sad how thomas never officially freed sally, and that his daughter has to be the one to give her her free time

  5. While reading this article it was interesting to read that Thomas Jefferson had children with his slave Sally Hemings. During that time im sure it was unheard of. It was mean though how Thomas Jefferson still used his children as slaves. I did visit Monticello with my family and I got to see the slaves living conditions which werent as bad as other slave living conditions I have learned of in the past

  6. Reading this article i found out things about Thomas Jefferson that i had never known. Sally was an enslaved woman of mixed race owned by President Thomas Jefferson. The Jefferson Hemings controversy showed intimate relationship with Sally Hemings. Controversy has been going on from the 1790s. I found this article very interesting to learn that the body has been tested and do show traces of DNA match.

They dont know where Sally Hemings lived but it is amazing how she was just owned by Jefferson. This is a shocking article.

  8. In reading this article, I wasnt to shocked about how Jefferson had children with his slave Sally Hemings , and still made his kids his slaves afterwards. Obviously, mixed races and mixed children were not allowed back then, so i feel Jefferson made his kids his slaves in order to show that they werent his kids, and just his slaves. In reading this article I also found it interesting that when they did the DNA tests that they found traces of a match.

  9. This article was very interesting. After reading it, I found out more things about Thomas Jefferson and things about Sally Hemings. I learned things that I never knew. Thomas Jefferson had children with a slave and he made his own children slaves. Sally Hemings was owned by Thomas Jefferson. I find this interesting because she was never actually freed and she had to work as a household/slave. I also found it interesting how they did a DNA test and found proof that it matches the DNA of the Jefferson's.

  10. I found this article shocking and interesting. I couldn't believe that Jefferson treated his children as slaves. I was very disappointed in that. I would've thought he would treat his children with respect. I liked that the article explained a lot about Sally Hemings life. It gave tons of details on what had happened and the story behind these events.

  11. I've heard about this but never read up on it. Never knew that Jefferson had so many children with his own slave. I also find it surprising that his slave was very light skinned and that the children were able to join the white society.

  15. it was interesting to discover that Thomas Jefferson had is own children as slaves, it is also sad to know that he didn't try to help f children but continued to treat them as slaves. It's also sad to know that their mother was never freed, but reassuring to know that his children were. It's disappointing know that one of our own presidents wasn't above other people, but it also shows that we are all equally weak in society. I also found it interesting of how they did a DNA test and let the truth come out that they were his kids.

  16. I couldn't believe that Thomas Jefferson actually did what he did. How did he live without a guilty conscience, because he put his own kids in slavery. I don't care what race your kids are, you still shouldn't put them through that type of torture or any type of torture. What Thomas Jefferson did was totally unjust.

  17. I would have never realized Jefferson had children with his slave! Especially the fact that they were light enough to join the white society ... DNA testing will never go wrong!
