sources to research your  Representative’s  (from Yesterday's homework) background, political views, and floor activities.

 After researching their background, political views, and floor activities and writing them down- choose an issue that concerns you and research your Representatives’ views and floor history regarding your choice

  1. Michael G. Grimm was first elected into office on November 2, 2010. Michael was born on February 7,1970 and currently lives in Staten Island, NY. Michael's occupations consisted of being an active member of the US Marine Corps, attorney, an FBI agent, and an owner of a heath restaurant in Manhattan. Michael's religious background is Roman Catholic. Michael is a representative of the conservative party of New York state. He is committed to cutting spending, limiting the role of government, and repealing Obamacare. Michael fights for job creation, overturning toll hikes, and preserving access to high quality affordable health care for the seniors. Michael serves on the house financial service committee,co-chairs the House Republican Israel Cacus, and is the chairman of the representative policy committees task force on foreign policy.

  2. Robert L.Turner was elected into office in the month of September of 2011. He was born on May 2, 1941. Robert is a member of the U.S House of Representatives from New York's 9th district. He was raised in Wood Haven as the oldest of three sons and raised his own family with Peggy his wife in Richmond Hill. He attended St.John's University and after he served his country in the army. He started his first media company, Orbis Communications in 1984 and served in leadership positions including chairman, chief executive officer and president. Robert's religious background was Roman Catholic. He campaign themes was fiscal recovery through cuts in federal spending. His plan was to reduce taxes without reducing benefits for current medicare and social security. To resolve the U.S debt, he proposed eliminating the U.S Department of Agriculture and the Environmental Protection Agency and reducing the size of the Department of Education.

He is a republican who grew up in Woodhaven. Turner went to St. Thomas the Apostle School and attended college at St. John's University. In 1984, he began his first media company, Orbis Communications. Turner partakes in the Veterans, Foreign Affairs, and Homeland Security committess. He supports small businesses and the middle-class.

Robert Turner is a Republican and is the first republican since the 1920s to be elected in the seat. Robert Turner is from Richmond Hills Queens, he supports small businesses and the middle class. Robert Turner takes part in Foregin Affairs, Homeland security committe and veteran affairs being a veteran himself from the army. Bob Turner attended St. Johns University earning a B.A in history. The day after Turner won the election he came to Washington with goals to ensure jobs are created, citizens be protected and american allies represented

  5. Rep. Robert L. Turner was previously elected in a special election to replace Rep. Anthony D. Weiner on September 13, 2011. He was the first Republican since the 1920’s to be elected to the seat. Bob spent his career starting and building companies of all sizes that created job opportunities around the world. He started his first media company, Orbis Communications, in 1984 and continued serving in leadership positions- including Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, and President- for some of the largest media entertainment companies in the country until his retirement in 2003. He believes that by adopting a pro business philosophy based on a reduction of government spending and the elimination of growth killing taxes our economy will get back on track leading to future growth and prosperity. I agree with Bob Turner. Cutting taxes and reducing government spending will help our nation's future.

Turner is part of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, the Committee on Homeland Security and the Committee on Veteran's Affairs. He wants to reduce federal spending and that taxes should be cut. I believe that he is right because it can really help the economy.

Turner grew up in the Woodhaven and is the eldest of three sons. Turner worked in the advertising and television industries for more than four decades.Turner's most important position was President of Multimedia Entertainment. Turner is part of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, the Committee on Homeland Security and the Committee on Veteran's Affairs. He believes that cutting taxes, and reducing government spending will help us grow and prosper.

He is Part of the committee on Home land security, Committee on foreign affairs, and the committee on veteran's affairs. He wants to cut taxes like everyone else which would be a good thing. He grew up in Wood-haven with two siblings which he was the older out of the three. He was born on May 2nd 1941, and he later attended st John's university. He was elected in the month of September of 2011 because Anthony Weiner the previous Representative had to resign. He had to resign because he was sending pornographic pictures to girls over the internet. So Turner saw the chance to get in the house of Representatives and he did.

  9. Representative Robert L. Turner was brought into office in 2011. Turner is a republican and he represents the ninth district. Also Turner was born in 1941 and he has always been into politics. He was born not far from here.(Queens) Turner does alot for us as he trys to make more jobs available to us and also trys to help us with our taxes. He trys hisnbest to cut our taxes because he feels this is best for our government.

  10. Robert Turner was elected by the people to represent them in Washington D.C.!This made him the first Republican ever since in the 1920's to be elected.R. Turner is now a lifelong resident of the 9th District of New York. He spent his years by building companies for everyone that created job opportunities around the world. In 1984, R. Turner was serving leadership positions, such as, CHAIRMAN, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER and he is famous for the largest media companies in the country. He was retired in 2003.
    His main goals was to ensure jobs, that was mainly based for the citizens. He believed by adopting PHILOSOPHY that was more based by the government spending and the growth killing taxes so that our economy will be back for the future growth and prosperity.

  11. Bob Turner was elected in 2011 and Represents the 9th district which includes areas of both Brooklyn and Queens. He was elected because Anthony Wiener resigned and a spot has to be filled. His key interests are keeping taxes low and creating jobs

  13. Mr.Jerroid Nadler is a democrat of the U.S House of Representatives in the 8th District. Mr. Nadler was first elected on November 3, 1992. His ballot was formed with the Working Families. Mr. Nadler was born in 1947 in Brooklyn, NY and he is Jewish. Mr. Nadler supports the following key issues;
    Mr. Nadler is Pro-Choice.He favors the immediate withdrawal of U.S troops from Afghanistan. He supports reducing the defense spending. He supports an income tax increase on any tax bracket. Mr. Nadler does not support reducing medicaid spending. He does not support balancing the budget as a priority. Mr. Nadler opposes capital punishment. He opposes the extension of the Bush Tax cuts for the households who make over 250,000 dollars a year. Mr. Nadler feels that federal dollars should not go to the creation of charter schools. He supports restrictions on the purchase and possession of guns. Mr. Nadler supports the Affordable Care Act. He supports illegal immigrant polices. Mr. Nadler supports same-sex marriage. Mr. Nadler feels that military force can be used as the last resort. Mr. Nadler does not support privatizing social security.

  15. Edolphus "Ed" Towns is a Democrat in the House of Representatives. He represents the 10th district and has been doing so for 15 terms. He brought in over $20 million to project in the fiscal year of 2010 (the 111th Congress). He is Chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. He holds a seat on the ENergy and Commerce Committee, which he has held since 1989. In 2010 inaugurated the Congressional Social Work Caucus, which he chairs. The caucus includes 60 members of the House and 5 professional social workers. Edolphus believes that the nation must continue to invest in the lives of young people in order to secure future prosperity.

He wants the United States troops to return home. He supports the idea of restrictions on the purchase and possession of guns and weapons. He is for illegal immigrant policies. Jerroid Nadler is for same sex marriage. He likes the idea of the use of the military as a last resort.

  17. Nydia M. Velazquez was born March 28,1953 and is a democratic representative for New York's 12th district and has been serving since 1993. She was born in Puerto Rico. She is a member of the small business committee and she oversees federal programs and contracts totaling $200 billion annually. She also serves on the House Financial Services Committee. On major issues she voted NO on banning federal health coverage that includes abortion. She voted YES on allowing human embryonic stem cell research as well.

  18. Edolphus was born July 21, 1934. On November 2, 2010 Edolphus was elected for Brooklyn’s 10th Congressional District. It is his 15th term in the house of representative. Everyone has confidence in him and his leadership. He has spent more than 20 million in Brooklyn in 2010 alone. He is a part of different committees and subcommittees such as health; communications and committee on oversight and government reform as ranking member. He continues to invest in young people to ensure future prosperity. And we need that because generations are changing and its not in a good way

He is trying to help our economy, and fights for more jobs. He is against job cuts and thinks our economy needs to grow. He stated "It is time to change our approach to the economy to start making a real dent in bringing the unemployment rate down.”

  20. Bob Turner like myself lives in Breezy Point and is a representative for New York. He was elected in September of 2011 and is on several committees including Foreign affairs, Homeland security, and Veterans. Before his political career he was a successful business executive, and decided to run after Anthony Weiner resigned. Turner has strived on the issue on giving jobs to the Veterans that come home from war. This is an issue that i support his cause on, as he is also a member of the veterans committee.

  21. Edolphus Towns is a member of the Us house of representitatives from new yorks 10th district. he assumed office on january3, 1993 he is a member of the Democratic Party. Towns deals with issues in the area of mill basin canarsie brownsvill, east New York ect. Towns is retiring at on april 16th , 2012 on his 15th term.

  22. Jerrold Lewis "Jerry" Nadler (born June 13, 1947) is the U.S. Representative for New York's 10th congressional district. He is a member of the Democratic Party.
    The district from 2002-2013 included the west side of Manhattan from the Upper West Side down to Battery Park, including the site where the World Trade Center stood. It also included the Manhattan neighborhoods of Chelsea, Hell's Kitchen, and Greenwich Village, as well as parts of Brooklyn such as Coney Island, Bensonhurst, Borough Park, and Bay Ridge. It included many of New York City's most popular tourist attractions, including the Empire State Building, Central Park, Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge and New York Stock Exchange.

He also was a successful businessman. He was elected as a Republican to the One Hundred Twelfth Congress, by special election to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of United States Representative Anthony D. Weiner. He was not a candidate for reelection in 2012, but was an unsuccessful candidate for nomination for the United States Senate.
