House of Representative Session

Please watch the following video of The House of Representative November 17th Session. In the comment area below please write down some thoughts about the video. Be specific so I know you are definitely watching the video. It is 4 hours long so I suggest you skip and fast forward some parts instead of watching the whole 4 hours (I do not expect you to watch the whole thing)

Things to keep in mind:

How is is structured (a session)?
What are they discussing that day?
Is there anything unique or did you learn anything new in the video about the HOR?
Who is speaking? What are their names and titles?
How does HOR chamber in Capital Hill look (description)

  1. The session was structured by the speaker of the house telling what state representative to speak and for how long. Each representative would have about two minuts. One thing was a Farm Bill that asked to be passed. It was intended to give stability to farmers and help feed prices go down. In the end stoping the prices of milk to reach 7 dollars a gallon. There was also a lot of talk about a big topic called the WTO commitment that the want to pass which would level the ground with Americans to trade. We would strengthen our relations with Russia and build a bridge with them. I never knew how they went about passing a bill or getting it approved. I found it interesting that there was a speaker from each state there to represent themselves on different issues and spoke about laws that they would like to be passed. The HOR in capital hill is a large room with tiered seating for the Speaker at the top and other representatives below him. There is a large american flag that hangs behind them.

  2. The first part of the session had to do with Republican John A. Boehner the speaker of the house introducing the House Chaplain. This was Reverend Patrick J. Conroy who initiated a prayer in the house. After the prayer, the speaker of the house welcomed the governor of California, who began the pledge of allegiance. Next, Republican Joe Wilson from South Carolina talked about the terrorism which took place on September 11, 2012. Then finally, Democrat David Cicillina from Rhode Island discussed the veterans and the support that citizens should give them. The meeting was not very interesting at all, and I did not like the way the people communicated with the speaker of the house. The fact that they have their backs to the speaker makes it difficult to fully grasp the meanings and were so aggressive about their point of views was not very professional, and it can be difficult for them to complete the process and for progress to be made.

  4. The Speaker of the house was structured to give each state representative duties for how long they can speak for and when it was their turn to speak. That day, one representative mentioned a Farm Bill. The Representative discussed how the price of milk can rise by 7 dollars in January. They also talked about Israel, the pillar of defense and how Israel supported self-defense. As I watched this video, it gave me a better understanding of how a law gets passed. Speakers from each state were speaking such as Rep Erik Paulsen from Minnesota and Rep Ilena Ros-Lehtinen from Florida. The HOR chamber in Capital Hill was set up with the speaker seated at top , a large flag that was behind the speaker and the representatives below him.

  5. The session is led by the speaker of the house and he basically tells all of the representatives when to talk and how long to talk for.. The representatives did not have that long to talk and prove their point.. They only had a few minutes to disavows their ideas and express their opinion.. During this long meeting there all different types of things discussed.. Some of these things were bills and laws.. The representatives discussed why bills and laws they thought should be passed or not.. They also discussed other countries and there role in trade.. After watching this I understood how a bill was passed spittle bit better.. The HOR chamber has the speaker at the top with a big American flag right behind him and the representatives where below the speaker..

  6. The session was structured by the speaker of the house John A. Boehner. John Boehner directed each representative to speak and he told them how long they can speak for. A Republican from the right side would get up and talk and then a Democrat from the left would speak. Many things were discussed during this session like Libya, a farm bill and money. Something unique about the HOR is how each representative is timed and the speaker of the house tells them how long they can speak, I also found it nice that they prayed before the session began. The HOR chamber is sort of scary looking, its big and dark and looks boring. One thing I found weird was in the beginning when a lady walked in with a pole with an eagle on it I think

He would chose a Republican then a Democrat. They spoke about many things in this session including a farm bill. They want to help the price of animal feed go down so that farm good's prices wouldn't increase. Some of the speakers were David Cicllina, Erik Paulsen, and Joe Wilson. The HOR chamber has an American flag behind the Speaker of the House with the representatives below him.

  10. A session is highly organized with events such as one minute speeches to get representatives opinions spoken, and debates that can continue for 90 minutes. The speaker, in this case, the president tempore, calls on representatives to speak. This day the House was discussing problems within their states like stable food prices and peace within the country, and global issues such as backing up Israel. The HOR chamber looks a huge courtroom. Some people that spoke are; president tempore, Rep. Joe Courtney of Connecticut, Rep. Jerry M. McNerney of California, and Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen of Florida.

  11. This session mainly consisted of the main speaker of the house John Boehner. Its organized so no surprise there. The speakers that John Boehner would choose would alternate from democrat to republican. They spoke on farming issues, and veteran issues. Israel has been a major issue so they also spoke on that as well.

  12. The session is started out with the speaker of the house introducing reverend Patrick J. conroy to start a prayer. The speaker of the house was Republican John A. Boehner. John organized the session so that everyone got to speak about their opinion. Even though they were allowed to speak for one minute, at least they got to speak a little bit about their opinion. Then they had debates that lasted over an hour that was about things such as a Farm bill, the terrorist attack on Sept 11th, supporting Israel and even something about how Russia can create jobs for Americans(I don't think that will work but we will see what happens). Some of the speakers that spoke were Joe Wilson from South Carolina, Burton of Indiana and Jerry M. McNerney of California. There is nothing unique or new that I learned from this. I always figured a bunch of people sat down and talked about things that are going on in the country and how they should fix it. The room looked exactly how I pictured it, a big room with a bunch of chairs and an American flag hanging in the Room.

  13. The session starts out with all of the members of the House of Representatives come in and find their seats and places on stand. An American Flag is on the wall of the room. Republican John A. Boehner was speaker of the House of Representatives. He organized it so well so that everyone was able to speak. Everyone was able to get their opinions heard and have their ideas listened too. Some topics that were discussed were a farm bill, food prices, veterans and September 11th.

  14. The session started out with the speaker of the house introducing Rev. Patrick J. Convoy saying a prayer. The head of the house of reps is republician John A. Boehner. Mr. Boehner organized the seesion so everyone got a chance to say what they had to say-time was kept to a minute for everyone speaking. They spoke or rather debated about the farm bill, 9/11, russia creating jobs for americans and veteran concerns.Several speakers were Joe wilson from South Carolina, Mr.Burton from Ind.
The House of rep's looked like the english parliment without the wigs-at least they have more women involved in the democratic process. I was glad to see no yelling or screaming, it was very orderly.

  15. When the session begins, everyone stands up to greet them, when everyone is in their right seats they begin their meeting. First thing, their is a LARGE american flag for the people of America, before starting anything they start off with a prayer, by Rev. Patrick J. Conroy , who is the house chaplain. Everyone, has a chance to speak out their problems or whats on their mind but if They don't they can pass until they have an idea to share. Rep. Dana ROHRABACER who is Representative for California, he is speaking on how to stop fighting and start paying attention for money, and expand more trade. The thing I like about them they give each other a chance to speak, and very honest. They all want peace and trying to end wars , and to have a strong economy. I AGREE WITH THEM!

  16. The Session was started with a prayer. Then speaker of the house, John A. Boehner presided over the session and allowed everyone one minute to speak on each topic, these topics ranged from the Farm Bill, to September 11th, to problems in the middle east. Their day seems very regimented and in my opinion boring

  17. The Speaker of the House, John A. Boehner, told which state representative to speak and for how long. Each representative has about a minute or two minutes each. Reverend Patrick J. Conroy initiated a prayer in the house. They spoke about 9/11 amd russia creating jobs. Joe Wilson from South Carolina, Burton of Indiana and Jerry M. McNerney of California are some of the many people who spoke. The room was very quite, there was no yelling or screaming. It was nothing like how they meet in england. It was very controlled and very peaceful.

  18. The session was mainly run by John Boehner of course. He chose who speaks between the Republicans and Democrats. Exciing stuff... They touched on Israel, the job market, 9/11 and many other things. It seemed to go very smoothly and boring of course. The main focus would have to be about the american economy.

  20. The session begins with a prayer from Rev Patrick J. Conroy and the Pledge of Allegiance lead by the Speaker of the House.John A. Boehner. It is followed by one minute speeches and debates on specific topics about the nation. They vote and pass a bill, oh and they have recess. Some of the topics of discussion were the attacks in Libya, the mathematics earth bill, seven dollars for a gallon of milk which is ridiculous which led to the farm bill being discussed. Help and support for Israel, trade relations with Russia and WTO and the possibility of future success. Some of those who spoke include Minnesota Erik Paulsen, Joe Courtney from Connecticut, Jerry Mcnerney from California, Ted Poe from Texas, and South Carolina Joe Wilson. There were only one minute for speeches but one thing I noticed from Joe Courtney was that he said I yield back the balance of my time, which means if you say whatever it is you have to say and you still have time you could assign your time to another speaker or whoever needs it. The chamber looks like a triangle chart with the Speaker of the House with a nice big comfy chair on top and other reps with smaller chairs below him. It looks like a three tier cake and in the back their is a big American flag and four pillars with designs in between them and above it read IN GOD WE TRUST. Also they call the Pro Tempore Judy Biggert, MADAM SPEAKER.

  23. It began with the speaker of the house, John A. Boehner, introducing Rev. Patrick J. Convoy who leads them in prayer. They then touch upon multiple topics including things with the farmers bill, isreal, libya, russia, and the economy. It wasnt exactly fun to skip around the video every part of it was boring and nothing like the english parliament. The main topic was the economy
